Pilgrim Vox impressed us all with its ambitious vision and—poem to poem—its degree of achieved compression. The poem sequence boldly—and to vivid effect—laminates the biography of a 14th century European subject onto a contemporary Canadian poet moving through an Ontario landscape. The result of this braiding is, as we say, a truly dazzling achievement as it considers big time in the rather small space of linked lyrics. We think the work is luminous and highly deserving of this year’s award!
